Biden Energizes Florida Crowd at Fort Pierce Campaign Rally

FIRST PERSON | FORT PIERCE, Fla. -- Vice President Joe Biden did what he does best, energizing a crowd of 1,500 Obama supporters at a campaign event Friday at Lincoln Park Academy.

The anticipation was growing as I waited with everyone outside in line for an hour and a half in the hot Florida sun, while energized campaign volunteers distributed bottles of water, encouraging us to vote early or by absentee ballot, and soliciting campaign volunteers.

The mixed crowd of blacks and whites was orderly and there was a sense of camaraderie while we took in the scene and observed the standby SWAT team in their black vehicle and several sharpshooters with automatic weapons perched on the rooftops above.

The wait was worth it because once Joe Biden took the stage inside the gymnasium, the crowd was on its feet, thrilled to experience first-hand the passion and humor of the vice president. He introduced his beautiful daughter Ashley who is campaigning with him this week and quickly got to the business at hand, campaigning to re-elect President Barack Obama.

Within the first five minutes, Biden had the crowd completely energized, as he capitalized on Obama's characterization of the Romney-Ryan team's sudden memory lapse known as "Romnesia." It has been the hot buzzword all over Twitter on Friday and Biden seemed to enjoy himself as he described it with a smile. "The President has a new term for this sort of ability to change their mind so quick." Before he could say it someone in the crowd yelled "Romnesia" and Biden repeated it to roars of laughter and great applause. I could sense that Biden was enjoying this moment as he flashed one of his biggest smiles.

Knowing he was on a roll, he continued: "And it's contagious. All of a sudden Paul Ryan, the budget hawk, the guy who introduced a whole budget plan?all of a sudden he can't remember what it actually does. He says it doesn't cut; it just slows growth."

Biden continued with his criticism focusing on Romney, suggesting that Romney told a guy in an unemployment line, "I didn't outsource your job; I off-shored it."

The crowd was pumped up and waved blue and white campaign signs saying "Forward" and doing the wave in the balcony. Another sign said "Florida Loves Joe" and someone wore a t-shirt that said "47 percent."

Biden continued to entertain this enthusiastic group by referring to Romney's policies not only as "sketchy," as Obama has described, but "Etch a sketchy."

He quickly covered many of the major issues, first discussing equal rights for women, women's healthcare , Medicare, tax cuts, the middle class, the 47 percent, jobs, Wall Street and Afghanistan, citing how many deaths and numbers who have been wounded, as of this morning. When talking about Romney's jobs plan, Biden said, "Folks we've seen this movie before and it does not end well."

He spoke for about 40 minutes and then spent another 10 minutes going through the crowd and shaking hands.
